Merrylands Youth Centre provides support for young people aged between 12 and 24 years. As a service we work closely with other local services, schools, families and other specialised service providers to ensure young people have access to all services and support required. We offer chill out areas, food & drinks, internet & computer access, information, play station & games, music, pool tables, air hockey, fuss ball and basketball. MYC can also help young people with public transports fines, employment, education, juvenile justice issues, accommodation, help with Centrelink or mentoring! Case Management

Through the case management process, we can assist you with many issues that affect your life. We provide individualised support, working with you to meet your needs.

School or University too hard? Being bullied? In trouble with the police? Have legal issues? Need to find a new place to live? Having problems at home or with your friends? Want to talk about relationships? Have health issues and don’t know what to do? Need help to get into TAFE or University? Feeling lost? Have no food? Just want someone to talk to?

MYC has youth workers that can assist you improve your current situation and provide support.

NOTE:  MYC workers are mandatory reporters so if you are at extreme risk, we do have to tell authorities.

Auburn Hospital- Young Mum’s Program

Merrylands Youth Centre works in partnership with the “Hand in Hand Growing Together” group every Tuesday and Thursday morning at Auburn Hospital supporting young women from the age of 12-24 with skills, study support, financial support, looking for employment, government assistance (Centrelink), accommodation and more.

 

Individual Support

MYC works with individuals 12-24 years old who may need advocacy, referral, support, case management or someone to speak to. We can assist and provide support with applying for Centrelink payments, provide information and referral for legal issues, housing and any other issue you have. Our organisation, if needed can refer you to an appropriate service while providing ongoing support.

Any support and assistance you need, we will help you.

 

 

Food Service

MYC offers a food service where we can assist young people 12-24 years of age and their families with food and support. For more information, call us on 9637 1535.

Work Development Order Program – Help with Fines

Having difficulty paying a Fine? We can assist you by completing a Work and Development Order if your aged 12 -24.

What is a Work and Development Order?

Work and Development Orders (WDO) are made by Revenue NSW. A WDO allows eligible people to satisfy their fine debt through unpaid work with an approved organisation or by undertaking certain courses or treatment.

The criteria to be eligible for a WDO include:

  • having mental illness
  • having an intellectual disability or cognitive impairment
  • homelessness
  • experiencing acute economic hardship
  • or have a serious addiction to drugs alcohol/volatile substances.

Merrylands Youth Centre is a registered organisation if you want to register in the WDO program you need to make an appointment by calling the Centre on 9637 1535.

When you attend the Centre, you need to bring:

  • Revenue NSW Debt Recovery Notice
  • Identification – photo ID, Medicare card, passport etc.
  • Bank Statement (or access to bank statement)
  • Or Centrelink notice or pension card

If you are eligible, we can then develop a program that allows you to pay off your fines. The Centre will put in to place activities, programs or workshops to be completed as a part of the WDO.

Access to computers and Internet

MYC provides access to computers, internet and printing, giving all young people access to do their resume, look for employment, study, print or more. Free of cost.

Homework Help

We partner with Cumberland Multicultural Community Services (CMCS) to help Primary, High School and University students with their assessments and general homework questions.

Mondays from 3:00pm – 6:00pm.
